Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
- An Ancient American Indian Proverb
Our Mission
The LOP addresses the protection of the County of Santa Clara's water resources, specifically groundwater basins, through the prevention of adverse environmental factors, preservation and improvement of beneficial environmental factors that affect our community's health and safety and the minimization of the economic costs to the general public and business community of our County.
General Information
On July 1, 2004, the oversight responsibilities of investigations and clean-up of petroleum releases from underground storage tanks began being transferred from the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD) LUSTOP to the County of Santa Clara (CSC) Department of Environmental Health (DEH) Local Oversight Program (LOP). That transfer is now officially complete. For additional information regarding the LUSTOP transfer, please click on the link to the right.
